PASADENA MUD ROOM
An often overlooked space, a laundry room or mudroom is a hardworking area of the home. One that plays an essential roll in every household. And, as is often the case in older homes, this laundry room doubled as a back entry + mudroom—this space wore a lot of hats for this family of four.Just because it is a utilitarian space, that doesn’t mean it needs to look like one.
Tired of being surrounded by blah, this client asked us to refresh and reconfigure what was previously her least favorite room of the house. We tailored the space precisely to the clients' wish list: create a rack to air dry delicate clothes, change to a stackable washer & dryer, have an area dedicated to folding, incorporate pull-out baskets for sorting folded clothes, have a small countertop and hanging wrack for dropping backpacks and leashes, add a fold out ironing board, find room for a utility closet, cleaning supplies and storage for seasonal items rarely used but still needing to be accessible. Oh, and create a little niche for a the family labradoodle, Cooper, to call home.
Like a game of tetris, we reconfigured the components until we were able to fit in everything on the wish list. And wrapped it up in a pretty package of custom tile, and warm woods. We transformed this space into an area of cohesive comfort.
