Meet Stefani Stein
JUNE 19, 2018
Today we’d like to introduce you to Stefani Stein.
Inside a Los Angeles Home for a Young Couple
For this home, interior designer Stefani Stein of Stefani Stein Inc. was asked to create comfortable spaces with a neutral palette for a young couple expecting their first child. "This design direction perfectly complimented the architecture of the 1930's home in the Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood," says Stein. "We wanted to honor the original details such as the ribbon moulding and wainscot, but with a direction that felt fresh, age appropriate and reflective of their California casual lifestyle.” says Stein. Bringing in contemporary artwork, hand-picked fabrics and wallpapers, and adding a touch of vintage, Stein has created seamless spaces perfect for a family to grow into.
MyDomaine Joined Chairish to Celebrate the L.A. Design Scene
by SACHA STREBE

Despite relocating to L.A. from Australia just three short years ago, I could not feel more at home. The MyDomaine family welcomed me with open arms and the Los Angeles design scene quickly followed with its ongoing support. This city is a thriving mecca of inspiring design talent who are cultivating a diverse and vibrant creative culture. So with the onset of another year, Chairishreached out to celebrate this group of design leaders with a special lunch (and personalized "Viva La Vintage" bomber jackets) that I co-hosted with the company's co-founder Anna Brockway at the quaint Spartina restaurant on Melrose.
Can you think of a better way to kick off the New Year? Brockway thinks not. "My 2018 promise to myself was to say thank you more often," she explained over lunch. "This luncheon was a way to thank important L.A. designers, influencers, and tastemakers who have helped make Chairish successful, especially Sacha Strebe of MyDomaine, who has provided us endless creative inspiration, wise advice, and has simply been a fantastic partner in crime to the Chairish brand."
To keep the celebratory theme alive, Chairish also asked me to curate all my favorite vintage pieces and of course, I chose the monochromatic theme to align with the all-black aesthetic of my wardrobe. You can see all the monochromatic selects at Chairish, further showcasing the high impact of a single shade. Step inside our beautiful luncheon and celebrate design with us. Here's to an exciting 2018.
4 Bathroom Paint Colors Interior Designers Swear By | MyDomaine
It's no secret that paint can transform a space. Whether you're looking to refresh your small powder room or revamp your master bathroom, a fresh coat can quickly take a room of any size from drab and dreary to open and bright or moody and sophisticated. But, as anyone who's wandered down the paint aisle at their local hardware store can attest, choosing a paint color is easier said than done.
When it comes to selecting the right bathroom paint color, there are a number of factors to consider that are specific to that space, particularly if you're freshening up a particularly small bathroom. Will a dark hue make the room feel sophisticated and modern or cramped and cave-like? Will a crisp shade of white look too cold and stark in a room without windows? Because paint colors can be so hard to envision, naturally, we turned to the pros to narrow down our swatch selection.
Keep scrolling to find out why interiors designers call these the "best bathroom paint colors."

Inside OITNB's Samira Wiley and Wife Lauren Morelli's Cali Bungalow: 'We Had an Opportunity to Be Uniquely Feminine'
“My goal was definitely color,” says OITNB writer and producer Morelli
BY MEGAN STEIN
Samira Wiley, star of Orange Is the New Black and The Handmaid’s Tale, and her wife Lauren Morelli are living a colorful newlywed life in their cozy Los Angeles abode. “The house isn’t huge,” Morelli tells Architectural Digest. “It’s a cozy little California bungalow.” Although Morelli bought the property when she and Wiley had just started dating, the OITNB writer and producer still took Wiley’s opinion into account from the get-go. “I always knew I was going to move in,” Wiley says.
How actress Samira Wiley and TV writer Lauren Morelli made Morelli’s house their home
Actress Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale) and television writer and producer Lauren Morelli (Orange Is the New Black) have only been married for seven months, but their Los Angeles bungalow looks like it’s a result of years of work tweaking and perfecting.
The couple’s home, featured in Architectural Digest, was home to Morelli before the couple wed, but it was quickly cleared out. “We started totally from scratch, and it's my first adult home, so it felt really nice to let go of the cheap, gross couch,” admits Morelli.
The house’s vibrant, fanciful design is by Stefani Stein, who worked with the pair to create a space that incorporates bold elements (the Lips on White wallpaper by Voutsa in the office; an ombre pink wall in the bedroom) with wood, marble, and white walls “which brought a sense of balance to the composition,” Stein explains.
Making design decisions was uncharted territory for both Morelli and Wiley, and they were glad to have a designer steering the ship. "I'm just starting to learn I can have opinions: 'Yes, I love that wallpaper. Yes, I love this,' Wiley says.

When Lauren Morelli first hired Stefani Stein, Morelli's girlfriend Samira Wiley had yet to move into her Los Angeles home with her. But according to Morelli, Wiley was "always a consideration" in her design process. Actress Wiley backs up her wife of just seven months, saying: "I always knew I was going to move in."
The couple first met in 2012 when Morelli, a writer and producer for the Netflix dramedy Orange Is the New Black, wrote an episode that Wiley appeared in (Wiley now appears on another Emmy-winning show, Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, as well as the comedy Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television, which just debuted on YouTube Red on October 25). The pair officially became a couple in 2014, and Morelli proposed in 2016. They married in March 2017.
"Starting a marriage, and coming into a house that you weren't a part of in the beginning, and learning how to make it part of your own is something I'm having to do after the fact," explains Wiley.

A Saturday with Stefani Stein
POSTED BY DECORIST EDITORIAL TEAM
One of the things our customers love most about their Decorist experience (in addition to their beautiful new room design, of course!) is the relationship they forge with their designer. Our designers take the time to get to know each of their customers—their needs, styles, budgets, what they like, dislike, etc.—which enables them to create personal room designs that are spot-on.
We think these relationships, between our customers and designers, are rather special. It's not just about the designer getting to know their customer, it's also about the customer getting to know their designer. And our designers are pretty cool, interesting and talented people!
So when we decided to create a blog series about getting to know these talented men and women we immediately thought of Elite designer Stefani Stein. Needless to say, we’ve been a little more than curious about Stefani Stein with her eclectic, Scandinavian, West Coast style. And so when we had the chance to peep into her Saturday itinerary, chock-full of her favorite L.A. spots (Stefani resides in the burgeoning neighborhood of Venice Beach), we had a feeling we were going to discover some design destination gems—and we were right!
When she’s not designing (or sharing incredible inspo on Instagram) this California native is hitting up some of the coolest spots that LA has to offer. Plus, we learned more about this fun, relaxed-yet-totally-refined designer as well. From Stefani's favorite weekend activities to why she’s all about the unexpected, we chat about it all.
So sit back, get to know Stefani, discover her crazy-good taste—and maybe you'll be inspired to visit LA or, better yet, start your own Decorist design project with Stefani today!

Don’t forget pet-friendly design. There are a lot of great ideas in this 63-square-foot laundry room, but one way it really stands out is through its pet-friendly features. Here, a dog bed provides a cozy spot for the family pooch, while to the right of the cabinet sits a water station. The cabinet holds dog food, while the drawer pulls out to reveal food bowls.
